Tasting of Tyrolean Prügeltorte Manufaktur

11. 04. 2025

Taste the classic Tyrolean Prügeltorte from Prügeltorte Manufaktur on April 11 at Julius Meinl am Graben on the first floor.

It is not known where the Prügeltorte originally came from - what is certain is that it found its way to the Brandenberg valley in the Tyrolean lowlands generations ago. It became an integral part of festivals there very early on.

How is Tiroler Prügeltorte eaten? And what is a Prügeltorte anyway?

Breaking or cutting? Both are possible. Break it off piece by piece or cut it into pieces. In many families, it is traditional to place the Prügeltorte(s) on the table so that everyone can easily reach them. Then you break it off piece by piece and the enjoyment can begin.

The Prügeltorte resembles a Baumkuchen in appearance and tastes like a butter wafer or shortbread cookie. The mixture is not baked in the oven but over an open fire
The batter of the Prügeltorte is an “equal-weight batter” or “egg batter”. This means that all the ingredients (flour, sugar, butter) are the same weight as the eggs.

We look forward to seeing you!
