Domaine Belargus
“Clos des Ruchères” (monopole)
Located at the beginning of the Côte des Forges, at the base of La Roche-aux-Moines, the "Clos des Ruchères" rests on a hillside of purple schists which are rare in the appellation area. It is covered with a very thin layer of soil, only about twenty centimetres deep. Slate schists, deeply fractured and very friable, degrade to form clays with a silky feel. The roots of the vines make their way to dive between the slates and draw their vital resources (water and mineral salts, notably).
This tiny steep plot, worked like a garden, gives birth to an strong identity cuvée, characterised by a great mineral tension. Two years of barrel ageing give it length and aromatic complexity, as well as significant ageing potential.

Domaine Belargus
Domaine Belargus was created in 2018 after Ivan Massonnat took over the Pithon-Paillé estate founded by Jo Pithon. Jo Pithon is a renowned winemaker who has for many years promoted the fame of the great white wines of Anjou, a wine region whose first vines date back to the eleventh century.
The passionate Ivan Massonnat refines these terroirs of the Loire with cuvées made on the basis of a rigorous selection of plots. Grands Crus, lieux-dits or monopoles, each micro-terroir contributes with its identity and specificities to the signature of these wines, which highlight a unique grape variety, Chenin Blanc.
The 24 hectares of vineyards, which are farmed exclusively biodynamically, owe their uniqueness to the soils, which, depending on the parcel, consist of purple slate, magma rock, rolled pebbles or even fine clay. This geological diversity not only favours the rooting of the vines, but also gives the wines an aromatic complexity as well as a minerality of rare finesse.
