Isle of Barra Distillers Ltd
Barra Atlantic Gin is the first spirit to be produced entirely on the Isle of Barra. From distilling, to bottling, to labelling - everything is done on the Hebridean island of Barra, on the edge of the Atlantic. The special ingredient in this gin is the hand-harvested carrageenan seaweed - also known as pearl moss or cartilage moss - which is also found in the North and Baltic Seas. It gives Barra Gin its wonderfully fresh, salty vegetal flavour. Since mid-2023, Barra Gin has also shone visually with its own breathtaking bottle design.

In the past, the Isle of Barra would have been considered the end of the world when viewed from mainland Europe. It is located in the Outer Hebrides and if you travel past Barra by boat from the Scottish mainland, there is nothing but Atlantic Ocean for quite a while until you reach Greenland.
1300 inhabitants share their island, their (only road) and their distillery! The ferry journey from Oban takes five hours or, weather permitting, you can reach the island in just one hour by small aeroplane. However, you don't land on an airstrip, but on the narrow sandy beach, weather and tide permitting.
