Blaufränkisch Reserve 2021

Moric

Blaufränkisch Reserve 2021

80% of the grapes for the Blaufränkisch Moric Rerserve come from the steep slate and limestone slopes in Neckenmarkt and 20% from the sandy and clayey soils of the Lutzmannsburger Plateau, which lies on limestone bedrock. Grown on 25- to 55-year-old vines, fermented with spontaneous yeasts, open mash fermentation for 3 weeks, matured for 20 months in 500- to 1000-litre barrels, no fining, no filtration. Powerful nose of sour cherries, blackberries, red currants, floral notes of lilac, a hint of malt coffee. A great texture on the palate with power and finesse, fine granular tannins, juicy acidity, present minerality, good length, very harmonious drinking flow. A multi-layered food companion!

Description

Moric Winery. Founded in 2001, the winery now covers 22.5 hectares of vineyards in central Burgenland and the Leitha Mountains. Roland Velich makes wines primarily from the Blaufränkisch grape variety, which unmistakably show one thing: their origin, Burgenland. Unique terroir, ancient vines, low yields, open mash fermentation with spontaneous yeasts and ageing in large wooden barrels result in wines that herald a new red wine era in Austria. The 2009 vintage of Blaufränkisch Neckenmarkt Alte Reben was the first Austrian red wine to achieve 95 Parker points and drew international attention to this previously unknown grape variety.
