Blaufränkisch Ried Schwemmer Lutzmannsburg 2021

Spicy notes on the nose, blackberries, sloes, blood orange and black cherries, plus smoky chalk. A powerful texture on the palate, with plenty of extract and harmonious acidity, grippy, crumbly tannin provides grip and structure, full-bodied with beautiful spice, engaging minerality in the long finish.

Description

Moric Winery. Founded in 2001, the winery now covers 22.5 hectares of vineyards in central Burgenland and the Leitha Mountains. Roland Velich makes wines primarily from the Blaufränkisch grape variety, which unmistakably show one thing: their origin, Burgenland. Unique terroir, ancient vines, low yields, open mash fermentation with spontaneous yeasts and ageing in large wooden barrels result in wines that herald a new red wine era in Austria. The 2009 vintage of Blaufränkisch Neckenmarkt Alte Reben was the first Austrian red wine to achieve 95 Parker points and drew international attention to this previously unknown grape variety.
