The history of Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut can be traced back to 1846. At that time, the Maison released Cuvée K, a historic champagne. It was the first with a lower sugar content, what is now known as "brut". The dosage of Cuveé K of less than 5% was daringly low at a time when champagne usually contained up to 40% sugar. The Maison Perrier-Jouët became famous for its Brut champagnes, which it was able to produce because its high-quality grapes required very little added sugar.
