Black Penja pepper is considered the most famous pepper in Africa. The fermented Penja peppercorns have a strong aroma with notes of wood, smoke and musk.

The black Penja pepper grows exclusively in the Penja region around Mount Cameroon. The peppercorns are harvested green before they are actually ripe and dried in the sun for about a week. The fermentation process gives the pepper its typical strong aroma. The rare black pepper tastes fresh and spicy and convinces with its warm aftertaste. The pepper is ideal for seasoning beef, pork and lamb, but also goes well with prawns, goat cheese and egg dishes.
